Common Mistakes

  • Spending too much money in the wrong places
  • Thinking you have a plan, when you really don’t
  • Trusting the wrong people
  • Attending too many, or the wrong, camps, showcases etc.
  • Misinterpreting what college coaches say and mean
  • Misinterpreting what it means to be “invited” to camps, showcases etc.
  • Not using all five official visits while paying for unofficial visits
  • Listening to the wrong people, especially other parents and friends
  • Not having the right goals
  • Improper utilization of recruiting services
  • Parents coaching from the sidelines
  • Not doing your homework ie: NCAA requirements
  • Misinterpreting where you are in the process
  • Misinterpreting your child’s talent level
  • Thinking that being smart, perhaps well educated and/or successful is enough
